The core reason why waste tires can be refined into oil lies in their chemical composition and specific processes.
Chemical composition of waste tires
The main components of waste tires are rubber and hydrocarbon compounds, which are the core basis of oil refining.
Rubber is composed of long-chain hydrocarbon molecules, which are similar to the hydrocarbon structure in petroleum. These long-chain molecules can be broken into short-chain hydrocarbons by chemical means to form liquid fuels similar to petroleum. Although non-hydrocarbon substances such as carbon black, sulfur, and zinc oxide added to tires do not participate in oil refining, they can be separated and recycled through process separation.
Key technology: pyrolysis method
The core process of waste tire oil refining is pyrolysis. Pyrolysis is to "cut" polymer chains into small molecules by high temperature in an oxygen-deficient environment.
Principle of pyrolysis
Oxygen-free heating: The broken tires are heated in a sealed reactor at 400-600℃, and the heat energy is used to react the rubber to obtain products.
Pyrolysis products:
Liquid: tire pyrolysis oil (similar to diesel), which can be used as fuel or further refined.
Solid: carbon black (can be used for rubber products or pigments) and steel wire.
Gas: Synthetic gas such as methane and ethane can be used as fuel to power the pyrolysis process.
