Waste tires and plastic contain large amounts of organic polymers that can be converted into useful hydrocarbon products through pyrolysis. Pyrolysis uses controlled heating in an oxygen-free environment to break down polymer chains and convert them into hydrocarbon vapors, which are then cooled and condensed into fuel oil.
- Feedstock Preparation
Before entering the pyrolysis machine, waste tires and plastics are prepared according to the equipment design. Whole tires can generally be processed in batch pyrolysis plants, while continuous pyrolysis systems usually require tires to be shredded or granulated for stable feeding. Waste plastics may also need sorting and size reduction to improve feeding and heat transfer.
- Heating and Thermal Cracking
The prepared material enters the pyrolysis reactor and is heated without oxygen. As the temperature increases, the long polymer chains in rubber and plastic begin to break down through thermal cracking. Unlike combustion, pyrolysis does not burn the feedstock. Instead, heat breaks large hydrocarbon molecules into smaller molecules that can form condensable vapors.

- Cooling and Condensation
During the pyrolysis process, the decomposed organic components produce hot hydrocarbon vapors. The hot hydrocarbon vapors enter a cooling and condensation system, where their temperature is gradually reduced. As the vapors cool, condensable hydrocarbons change into liquid, forming pyrolysis fuel oil.
